Around the Block

On Sunday, we took to the air again, for a venture that I had long considered. With a pleasant afternoon and a few hours to spend, we visited a few airports that we had not yet landed at. Our trip took us up to North Adams, then south to Pittsfield and Great Barrington, and then west to Columbia County, NY, where we have been previously, but not solo.

Departing to the northwest. On a cold day like this, Yellowbird really loves to climb.

As we descend towards North Adams, Mt. Greylock ascends, to 3,500 feet.

Entering a left downwind for 29 at North Adams.

Preparing for departure from 29.

Climbing southward along the west flank of Greylock. Our next stop was Pittsfield, but I didn't get any pictures this time.

After Pittsfield, we stopped at Great Barrington, then headed west to Columbia County.

Heading back towards home above the snowy New York countryside.

Looking down on the old Boston and Albany roundhouse at Chester.

For the navigation geeks, here's the Chester VOR.

Littleville Lake (previously misidentified as Tighe Carmody Reservoir), with lots of snowmobile activity.

Back home, turning final for 02 after extending downwind for traffic spacing.

One mile from touchdown, and two hours after departure.

That's Littleville Lake, not the Tighe-Carmody.

By golly, you're right. They do look somewhat similar from the air, but the spillway gives it away.
